Overview

AKA: Wizard, Magus, Warlock
Masters of the magical arts of destruction, black mages harness fire, ice, and thunder to eliminate opposition, calling raw elemental material out of thin air and hurling it at their foes. Black mages deal some of the largest buckets of damage in the game, though they have few support abilities to rely on, making them narrowly focused. They also lack much of the physical power of other jobs, and while they can destroy most foes who may threaten them, enemies with some elemental warding or knowledge about the black mage's abilities may prove difficult. Their abilities are raw magical destruction, which makes them a classic back-row mage kind of job.

Characters with Black Mage as their main job can use the following skills.

Explore Intelligence: Black Mages look for easy ways cautiously, from a distance.
Social Spirit: Black Maes can intimidate, and their power is highly respected.
Knowledge Intelligence: Black Mages are versed in ways of hidden knowledge.

Black Magic

Black Mages gain the following powers as they gain job levels. Their powers generally consist of three categories of destructive magic: the basic, reliable Fire suite, the potent blast of the Ice suite, and the broad targeting Thunder suite.

1: Arcana: Bio

Bio helps destroy an enemy over time, even if they're not taking damage from any other source.

2: Fire: Fire

The Fire spell is a basic, well, fire spell.

3: Ice: Blizzard

Blizzard is a basic ice spell.

4: Lightning: Thunder

Thunder hits an enemy with an electrical charge.

Fira releases multiple fireballs to consume the enemy.

Blizzara hurls icicles at the foe.

Black mages can customize their abilities with feats, gaining new abilities and options.

Rank I

Boost: Focus

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 1
With Focus, a Black Mage can enhance their magical ability even more, given some time.

Focus [Ability] Tech 1 A You enhance your Spell Power by +1.
This ability stacks with itself up to +5.

Rank II

Boost: Recharge

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
Recharge allows a black mage to recover their MP…maybe….

Recharge [Ability] Tech 1 A Roll 1d20. On a roll of 15 or better, you recover all of your MP.
On a roll of less than 15, you loose all of your MP.

Fire: Firaja

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
A Black Mage with this feat can assault multiple enemies with fire.

Firaja [Ability] Spell 2 A
20 MP
Deal SPELL POWER Fire damage to all enemies.

Ice: Blizzaja

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
A Black Mage with this feat can assault multiple enemies with ice.

Thunder: Thundaja

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
A Black Mage with this feat can assault multiple enemies with lightning.

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
A black mage with this feat masters poisons.

Arcana: Bioja

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 5
A black mage with this feat can poison masses of monsters.

On a roll of 10 or better, you inflict Poison.

Rank III

Arcana: Death

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 8
A Black Mage with Death can take life with a simple magical gesture.

Death [Ability] Spell 3 A
35 MP
Roll 1d20. On a roll of 10 or better, the enemy is afflicted with Death.
On a roll of less than 10, or if the enemy is immune to Death, you instead deal TRIPLE SPELL POWER Shadow damage.

Arcana: Bioga

Prerequisite: Black Mage Level 8
A black mage with this feat masters poisons.

Biora Spell 1 A
25 MP
Deal TRIPLE SPELL POWER Shadow damage and roll 1d20.
On a roll of 10 or better, you inflict Poison.

Epic

Ancient Magic: Ultima

Prerequisite: Black Mage Epic Level
Black mages at the peak of their craft can decimate entire armies at once.

Ultima Spell 4 A

This deals TRIPLE SPELL POWER non-elemental damage to all enemies.
